Four hotels.. one great achievement – 10 April 2008
On the 1st April, 2008 the family owned FJB Group - with hotels in Bournemouth and on the Sandbanks Peninsula in Poole - were awarded the prestigious ‘Investor in People’ award, already known as leaders in the hospitality field and highly rated by such bodies as the AA, Visit Britain and Quality in Tourism, the hotel group were formally recognised nationally as an organisation which acknowledges the worth of its staff and works with them to develop their full potential.
This award demonstrates not only the commitment of the hotels staff but also that of the Group’s Managing Director. ‘I am delighted that we have achieved this award and my fellow directors and I are proud to be part of this nationally recognised scheme. All credit is due to our team for their hard work and commitment to the programme over the past year’ says M.D. John Butterworth ‘The greatest asset of any company is its workforce and my priority is to support and develop the skills of my staff to their full potential. Recognition as an Investor in People also benefits our guests, of course. Happy, well trained staff, fully committed to the Company and improved channels of communication providing feed back allows us continually to meet the expectations of the customer’.
Since April 2007, the Company has worked closely with Quality South West to achieve improved communications between all levels of staff and structured training programmes, often involving the hotels with local community and educational establishments. Staff can now enjoy a better working environment with greater stability due to reduced staff turnover, the opportunity to influence positively their future with the Company and are regularly kept up-to-date with happenings throughout the Group via the FJB Newsletter. Recognition of hard work and commitment is high on the FJB agenda with awards for long service and Employee of the Quarter in each hotel. A staff award ceremony, as an annual event held early in January, affords the opportunity for recognition as Employee of the Year.
The Investors in People inspector was pleased to pass on some of the comments made by staff members during his visit: ‘This is the best hotel I have worked in and I have worked in many hotels across Europe’, ‘We were all involved in developing our team business plan’ and ‘We believe that we are now doing something for the business are just a few of many similar sentiments.
