Play Review ‘The Shining’ at the Chine Hotel

During February, whilst the Chine Hotel was seasonally closed, we had pleasure in hosting Bournemouth Arts University’s successful and spellbinding play ‘Shining’ directed by David Glass.

  • Inspired by Stephen King’s novel The Shining and Stanley Kubrick’s film of the same name, this breathtaking production was performed beautifully by the University’s dynamic actors and actresses. Magically set within our historic hotel adding a certain credibility to each scene.
  • The Chine Hotel situated on the clifftop at Boscombe has its own interesting theatrical connections. Set up as a family business by Frederik John Butterworth, who was a keen supporter of theatre, the hotel saw many famous actors staying there whilst performing at the Boscombe Hippodrome; Laurel and Hardy, Morecombe and Wise, Norman Wisdom, Vera Lynn, Charlie Chester and Frankie Howerd, to name but a few.  These photographs can be found adorning the walls of the hotel. To this day, FJB Hotels, still owns Boscombe Hippodrome and the Richmond Theatre in London.
  • The Chine Hotel reopens its doors for the Spring/Summer season on 7th April 2017. Fantastic accommodation offers can be found here.
